Atlanta Symphony Orchestra says
Before this Haydn Concerto, trumpets were simple instruments with no keys and a limited range. Haydn’s good friend, Anton Weidinger, worked for years to develop the "organisierte Trompete," the precursor to today’s valved trumpet. To show off the new instrument, Haydn wrote this Concerto, which Principal Trumpet Stuart Stephenson will bring to life in his Atlanta Symphony Orchestra solo debut.
