Mlk Day Of Service says
Join the Clarkston Community Center on Monday, January 18 as we engage in service and dialogue on MLK Day. Sign up Here.

The CCC will host 1.5 hours of community service, break for snacks, then re-convene for 1.5 hours of performance and conversation. We hope you will join us and make it a day on, not a day off! Join with us in honoring the bold work that the civil rights pioneers did and keep their spirits alive as we continue to work together to build the beloved community.

Service is help clean up the Clarkston, GA community. Dialogue sees us continuing the conversation that we started in 2015 around building the beloved community. This year, MakeShift Circus Collective and the CCC present “Race Circus Project” – an excerpt of a larger production exploring integration 50 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Dr. King had a vision that “little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.” Is that dream a reality? MakeShift Circus Collective explores this question through a circus arts performance based on personal narratives of Atlanta Public Schools attendees talking about their perception of integration and experience of race.

Following the 20 min performance, attendees join together for facilitated dialogue around integration – not just between Black and White Americans but with New Americans as well. What does building a multicultural society look like and how do we create a world of acceptance and understanding when some people wield religion and race or ethnicity to keep people divided?
