If you’re a fellow fan of juicy, spiced logs of meat wrapped in flaky, buttery jackets of pastry, then you’ve landed in the right place. Our Travel & News Editor Melissa Woodley quizzed foodies around the country to bring you a list of the best sausage rolls in Australia. We've featured award-winners, like the one-kilogram monster from Kenilworth Bakery and the reigning national champion from Whittlesea Bakehouse, along with cult favourites like Bourke Street Bakery and Tivoli Road. 1. Whittlesea Bakehouse, VIC

Where: Whittlesea, VIC

What to order: Beef sausage roll

Say g’day to the newest addition in Australia’s sausage roll hall of fame: Whittlesea Bakehouse. Located just 40 kilometres north of Melbourne, this family-run bakery won the coveted title of Australia’s Best Sausage Roll at the 2025 South Australian Baking Show. The secret to Whittlesea’s award-winning roll lies in its traditional beef filling, mixed with onion, carrot, salt and a hint of pepper – all encased in buttery pastry. Owner Adrian Caporetto reckons it tastes best plain, so forget the tomato sauce.
