The Project SoundLounge festival, taking place over three days in August, is the city's only free youth-led music festival.

First launched in 2012 by Town Hall Symphony Hall, Project SoundLounge is designed to empower 16-25 year olds, who've been tasked with creating a festival that reflects Birmingham's contemporary, diverse and grassroots music scenes.

In addition to booking the performing artists, the talented youngsters involved, who are hoping to start careers in the music industry, have also used the festival as an opportunity to develop their marketing, production and programming skills.

Project SoundLounge will celebrate a diverse range of musical genres, including reggae, ska, indie, rock, folk, jazz, soul, hip hop and more. Alongside a performance from popular Birmingham reggae group Friendly Fire Band, local bands including Namiwa Jazz, Lobster, Malarkey and Piston will also be taking to one of several stages.

Starting on Friday August 7, performances will be taking place at Digbeth Dining Club and Brindleyplace, with a weekend of music at the Town Hall, headlined by Friendly Fire Band on August 8 and Birmingham folk-indie group Midnight Bonfires on August 9.

There will also be an array of food stalls supplied by Digbeth Dining Club, offering a selection of street-food treats over the weekend.
