Time Out says

5 out of 5 stars

Highly regarded restaurant with a focus on seasonal, British ingredients. Set menus are an affordable option for lunch or dinner

Birmingham's most recent addition to the Michelin Guide, Carters is an intimate and elegant neighbourhood restaurant with ambition. It’s headed up by chef Brad Carter, who was trained at Birmingham’s renowned College of Food (now UCB), before a continental tutelage in kitchens across France and Spain.

Back on his home turf, Carter and partner Holly Jackson set up the Moseley eatery with the aim of delivering ‘light and modern’ cuisine, with a particular focus on ‘clean flavours and seasonal ingredients’. The buzzword here is British, and the menu features some wonderful dishes such as the fantastic Cornish duck (with kale and salted plum sauce) and red mullet (with black beans and leek).

It’s all about taking the surprisingly diverse produce of these fair isles and plating them up in a modern, simple and stylish way. Affordable set lunch and dinner menus have broadened the appeal, putting the gourmet experience within the reach of many more diners. The three-course lunch is £27 (£32 with wine), while dinner is £50 per head.

And the ultimate seal of approval? Birmingham’s other Michelin-starred chefs have been spotted dining at Carters on several occasions.
