What’s the vibe?
If you’ve ever squeezed into a Mexican taqueria, you’re halfway to imagining what it’s like to eat at Perro. No frills, few tables, shoulder-to-shoulder and practically in the kitchen - expect to be shovelling your food down with your hands and repeatedly reaching for napkins as you eye up the corn-on-the-cob being torched right in front of you.
What are the prices like?
It’s not the tacos that’ll hike up the bill, it’s the inability to stop at one perfect - but £12 - margarita. Happily, there’s plenty of reasonably-priced food to soak up Perro’s own-batch tequila - zingy pickles and a watermelon salad swimming in a chamoy-laden juice are £5-8, while elotes and a smooth sikil pak dip are £9-12. Tostadas and tacos - both veggie and carnie - sit at a comfortable £10-15.
What should I order?
Honestly? One of everything. The dessert - a chocolatey mousse with chilli oil - is the perfect, fluffy finish.
