It’s not every day that a dilapidated motor lodge is reborn as a trendy boutique hotel—well, outside of Los Angeles, anyway. Indeed, the Verb is about as close to LA as Boston gets, with its midcentury furniture, Mondrian stained glass windows and poolside scene. The room furnishings are simple, but it’s the accoutrements that you’re here for: rotary phones, vintage speakers, local music ephemera and framed covers of the city’s since-departed alt-weekly, which used to operate just down the street. Live music is a regular occurrence in both the lobby and pool area, the better to send you off to dinner at Hojoko, the hotel’s izakaya and tropical drink den. Plan to take in a Red Sox game? Fenway Park is just around the corner; even if the Sox aren’t in town, you can take a guided tour of the ballpark.
