Boston's indie music scene gets the spotlight it deserves at NICE, a fest, a three-day celebration of artists from across New England. Rather than building the weekend around a handful of headliners, the festival gives equal billing to more than 80 emerging and established acts performing across three venues in Somerville's Davis Square. That format makes it just as rewarding to discover a band you've never heard of as it is to catch a local favorite. Between sets, festivalgoers can browse a vendor market featuring independent makers and artists, adding another layer to the weekend beyond the music. With venues just a short walk from one another, the festival encourages hopping between stages to build your own lineup. It's a refreshing reminder that some of the region's best music is happening much closer to home than you might think.
