Visit on the weekend and you’ll be battling for a counter seat with Somervillian loyalists. Buddy’s is an unapologetic greasy spoon—there aren’t many places in town where you can get a steak and cheese omelette—but also a surprisingly tasty one. Homestyle classics include corned beef hash, Texas French toast and extra-thick pancakes. Employees are cheerful and clearly take pride in this 20-seat spot, housed in a 1929 vintage car and open since 1951. And like all bona fide diners, this one is cash only.
