For some, it evokes the Gare du Nord in Paris; for others, New York’s Balthazar; above all, this big, buzzing American brasserie is a smash hit, accessible in every sense of the word. It’s open early and closes late, is staffed by energetic, expert mixologists and knowledgeable servers, and is frequented by folks who know where to go for a fabulous meal, whether or not it’s during baseball season (Fenway Park is around the corner). The huge bar and heated patio are big pluses. The menu is deceptively simple but appealing, sneaking in oodles of offal between the chilled shellfish and comfort classics such as steak frites and schnitzel.
