Opened in early 2025, Jadu has quickly established itself as a welcoming addition to the Jamaica Plain community. "Jadu," meaning "magic" in Hindi, is a name that encapsulates owner Maya Mukhopadhaya's vision for the space: to create inviting "third spaces" where people can connect, share, and just be. For Maya, the magic of Jadu lies in fostering connections – whether it's the joy of gathering with loved ones, the serendipity of meeting a stranger, or the quiet enchantment of a personal moment. She believes that food and drink naturally facilitate conversation and community, acting as conduits for connection.
Prior to launching Jadu, Maya worked in a coffee shop and at JP fave Tres Gatos before developing Jadu into a pop-up series. Now a bona fide brick and mortar establishment, Jadu operates with a unique dual concept, functioning as a vibrant coffee shop during the day and, beginning in mid-2025, transitioning into a wine bar in the evening.
The vibe: Clean, contemporary, and hip, Jadu has mastered the whole “hygge” concept with ample seating, good music, and a friendly, welcoming waitstaff. Relaxing mint green tones on the bar and espresso machine add that boost of magic Mukhopadhaya was looking for.
The food: The globally-inspired menu reflects Maya's diverse experiences in India, Lebanon, and beyond. Daytime offerings feature flavorful dishes such as pistachio butter toast and Turkish-style eggs. Lunch options include "the mezze situation" and a peanut-forward chicken and rice dish.
The drink: Bold and delicious Counter Culture coffee drinks and a variety of teas are available. The aromatic masala chai is a consistent winner.
Time Out tip: Don’t miss out on daily fresh-baked pastries brought in from the nut-free bakery Monumental Market.
