The Neighborhood is all about the experience. Somerville natives know you will wait, but also that there will be free coffee and muffins for those in line. (Plan on arriving before 9am or after 2:30pm if you don't want to wait.) A local gem for nearly 30 years, this family-owned restaurant is beloved for its huge portions of American breakfasts with a Portuguese twist served on the cheap. Every entrée comes with fresh fruit or a bowl of cream of wheat, though we highly recommend you choose the latter. Sweet and creamy, Neighborhood’s cream of wheat has its own cult following, and once you’ve tried it, you’ll find yourself converted too. Lunch options include roasted chicken, shrimp with rice, and a seafood platter—and a much quieter atmosphere than the weekend brunch rush. The vine-covered patio makes this spot a popular choice when the weather is warmer. The patio usually opens by Mother’s Day and closes sometime in October.
