If you're looking for a course near the city with elevation changes and a variety of hole types, look no further than the municipal Brookline Golf Course. Open to the public and with a year-round driving range—and a hidden gem of a bar and grill in the clubhouse, Hemlock Grill—it's a gem of an amenity for locals and visitors alike. In the winter, the clubhouse maintains cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails and rents equipment. Weather can be an issue (there is little drainage, so steer clear after a heavy rain), but the price will keep you coming back for more.
