Time Out says

Not to get sappy, but this free event is a pretty sweet deal. Beginning in late January, a team of volunteers taps a swath of maple trees on the Tufts campus, collecting dozens of gallons of sap over a number of weeks. Coordinated by the Somerville Community Growing Center, they’ll boil it all down into true 100 percent hyper-local maple syrup. After all is said and done, Somerville's 26th Annual Maple Boil Down kicks off. At the event held on Mar. 1 from 11am-2pm, participants of all ages will have a chance to learn about tree anatomy and physiology and experience the process of making fresh maple syrup first-hand. Rain date is Mar. 8 from 11am-2pm.
