The James P. Kelleher Rose Garden is one of Boston's quietest treasures, and Tuesdays with Roses offers a chance to get your hands dirty while helping it stay that way. Held on select Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. throughout the summer, the volunteer program invites people of all experience levels to deadhead blooms, prune roses, and care for one of the city's most beautiful public gardens. The work is simple, the tools are provided, and before long you'll find yourself chatting with fellow volunteers among hundreds of fragrant roses in full bloom. It's a different kind of summer outing, one that leaves the park a little more beautiful than you found it. For anyone looking to experience Boston beyond the usual attractions, this is a rewarding way to spend an evening.
