Billed as a 'playground for new ideas', The Rooms is a three day festival showcasing arts, humanities and inventions designed to change and brighten our world.

From November 5-7, The Rooms will take over the old Fire Station, Magistrates Courts and Police Station (now better known as The Station, The Island, The Kitchen and The Old Crown Courts) in Bristol City Centre, filling them with 53 interactive installations.

As the name of the festival suggests, the buildings (brought together as one site for the first time) have been turned into an open house for visitors, with each area divided up into different themed rooms.

The Rooms

For example, you could enter the 'enchanted garden' to try a swing that lights up the sky as it moves; escape the 'maze', a game that uses your bio-data as a controller; battle with gaming robots in the 'playground'; flee VR zombies using the Oculus Rift in the 'lab'; or simply unwind with the electronic breathing stone in the 'breathing room'.

Alongside these creative inventions, the festival will be hosting a series of workshops and talks, where you can find out more about everything from game design and den building, to storytelling and journalism.

Best of all, with just one exception (a screening of 'Orion: The Man Who Would Be King', a documentary about a man asked to masquerade as Elvis after his death) the festival is free.

With so much to see and do, take a look at the programme to see what The Rooms has in store.
