Halloween fun for Bristol film fans

Halloween isn't just for kids, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. It's a time when lovers of the macabre come together to celebrate all that is blood spattered.

It's not all about getting dressed up as sexy zombie nurses, either. Some of us just like to sit in the dark with a beer or two and watch horror films.

Bristol's really delivering this year, with a bunch of fine films to send tingles down even the most hardened horror fans' spine. Here are five to look forward to:

'A Nightmare on Elm Street'

Nightmare on Elm Street

On October 27, Bristol's SeventySeven Film Club will be screening 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', by the late, great Wes Craven in the basement of the Arts House Cafe.

The set up down there is a total joy, with giant squishy sofas, a projection screen and bar upstairs. Tickets cost a very pocket-friendly £2, so grab a beer and settle down for a night of Freddy.

'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. Tuesday October 27, 8.30pm. The Arts House Cafe, 108a Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS1 3RU. More info here

Hot Tub Cinema

Hot Tub Cinema

Hot tub, beer and cinema – united at last. The UK's favourite pop-up bar 'n' bubbles outfit is making its way to merry Brizzle for the third time running for a super spooky Halloween edition.

The gig will be setting up in The Paintworks from October 29-November 7, with room for 120 people. There'll be plenty of booze on hand, plus a waiter service, so you don't have to get out into the cold.

And the films? 'Shaun of the Dead' on October 29, 'Jaws', on October 30, followed by 'Scream' on October 31. A £20 ticket reserves you a place in the tub with five other guests.

Hot Tub Cinema. October 29-November 7. Paintworks, Bath Road, Bristol, BS4 3EH. Find more information here.

'Army of Darkness'

Army of Darkness

Head on over to Stokes Croft for an evening of gleefully gory splatter effects, Bruce Campbell eyebrows, live comedy and music.

The Cube Microplex is really pulling out all the stops this Halloween with a righteous combo of Sam Raimi's B-movie classic 'Army of Darkness', plus live stand up from Bec Hill, Mat Ewins, South Coast Comedian of the Year winner Mia Lane and 'Evil Dead' fan Tom Clutterbuck.

It promises to be a good 'un, trust us. Advance tickets cost a very reasonable fiver in advance.

'Army of Darkness'. October 31, 7.30pm. The Cube Microplex, Dove Street South, Bristol, BS2 8JD. More information available here

'The Blair Witch Project'

The Blair Witch Project

Cinema group Backyard Cinema is screening '90s found-footage classic 'The Blair Witch Project' in the beautiful (but appropriately spooky) Arnos Vale Cemetery.

The night starts at 7.30pm, with the film starting at 8.30pm. There'll be a bar and food on hand to keep you warm, but don't forget to bring a blanket, a torch and nerves of steel. We dare you to explore the surrounding woodland after. Go on, it is Halloween, after all...

'The Blair Witch Project'. October 29, 7.30pm. Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bath Road, Bristol, BS4 3EW. Find more information here

'Night of the Living Dead'

Night of the Living Dead

Surrounded by controversy when it was first released in 1968, George A. Romero's zombie classic 'Night of the Living Dead' is one of the most profitable horror movies ever made.

Whether it's yet to spook you for the first time, or you're returning to it for the hundredth time, you deserve to watch what is considered the pioneer of the modern zombie flick at Windmill Hill Community Centre on October 31.

Tickets cost £5, but you'll get your own bucket of popcorn thrown in, too.

'Night of the Living Dead'. October 31, 7.30pm. Windmill Hill Community Centre, Vivian St, Bristol, BS3 4LW. Read more information here.
