Forget greasy spoons and fast food muffins – The Gloucester Old Spot in Bristol has been named as the top place in the UK for a hot breakfast, according to catering supplier Aviko's Great British Breakfast competition.

The Horfield pub's 'Big One' breakfast uses locally sourced smoked back bacon, sausages and black pudding with vine tomatoes, garlic Portobello mushroom, hash browns, spinach, baked beans and a choice of poached, fried or scrambled eggs, as well as its 'legendary' rosemary and smoked paprika potatoes.

The Gloucester Old Spot only opened in September 2014, but the Big One breakfast quickly gained popularity for its combination of size, quality and value for money.

Bar chain Belushi's – which has venues across Europe, with our nearest being in Bath – scooped the prize for Best Breakfast Bap. Beluishi's 'Badass Breakfast Bap' is served in a brioche bun and includes two rashers of smoked bacon, a fried egg, hash browns, pork sausages and a special ingredient: homemade BBQ Jagermeister baked beans.
