Solar eclipse in Bristol in March

A solar eclipse will block 90% of the sun's light in Bristol on Friday March 20, in the most dramatic event of its kind since 1999.

Promising to plunge the city into darkness, the eclipse is due to start at 8.23 am in Bristol and last a couple of hours, hitting its peak at 9.29am as the moon passes in front of the sun and turns day into night.

This will be the last total solar eclipse in Europe until August 2026, and will affect most of the continent, with Scandinavia seeing 'totality' and partial eclipses visible from Russia down to North Africa.
