Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

A calming decor, excellent selection of homely cakes and sandwiches, and good quality coffee from Extract ensure this café’s popularity

This is the second branch of Spicer+Cole to open in a pretty short amount of time. The first opened in Queen’s Avenue in the centre, and filled a gap in the area for good coffee and affordable wholesome food in a relaxed, minimal environment.

That formula has proven to be a success in Clifton too, where the exposed brick, muted grey walls and overhead lamps provide a calming backdrop to your breakfast, lunch and coffee.

The huge counter that greets you as you walk through the door is constantly laden with mouthwatering goods. At breakfast time it’s pastries from Richard Bertinet, changing to doorstop sandwiches, frittatas and salads at lunch, and making way for cakes galore as the afternoon progresses.

The coffee comes from legendary Bristol roaster Extract, and makes the perfect pairing for the rich, homemade cakes – the peanut butter brownie is a particular favourite. Make sure you keep an eye out for their guest coffees too.

This is the ideal place to read the Sunday papers over a weekend breakfast of brioche French toast.
