On September 18, “Papá x Dos” premieres in cinemas across the country, promising a comedy full of tenderness, chaos, and plenty of humor. In the film, Santiago (Benjamín Vicuña) thinks he has found the perfect woman, Ana (Celeste Cid), until he discovers that she’s pregnant… and that the father is her ex (Lucas Akoskin). Instead of running away, he decides to stay, diving into a family entanglement that breaks traditional norms and celebrates new models of family. We spoke with Vicuña about his role and the experience of bringing this story—with children and moments of intense comedy—to the screen.

What was the most fun and the most challenging part of getting into the family chaos of Papá x Dos?

The most fun and, at the same time, the biggest challenge was working with children and giving a realistic dynamic to the family that was formed—making it have rhythm, good dialogue, laughing, and enjoying what we were doing.

The film is a comedy, a genre where making people laugh depends a lot on timing and chemistry. How do you get along with comedy, and what do you enjoy about working in this style?

I love comedy, I feel very comfortable with it. I enjoy watching it, acting it, and enjoying it with family as well. Timing and rhythm are definitely fundamental, and I think we were lucky with this incredible cast to achieve it and now enjoy it.

You’re a father of several children in real life: what have you learned about parenthood that helped you bring truth to Santiago in the film?

I’ve learned that in the role of being a parent, you keep growing every day, that you learn more from them than what you can teach them, and that the important thing is to enjoy the moment, the process, and everyday life.

After this project, is there any role or genre you’re dying to explore in the near future?

Not particularly. I like having the opportunity to keep experimenting with different characters and genres, as well as exploring theater, film, and television. I enjoy moving through different genres, not staying anchored in one, but always being open and humble with the universe and the future, to see what surprises it might bring me.

Something you miss from Chile when you’re in Buenos Aires: The mountains and the sea nearby
