Cape Town’s global air connectivity continues to gain momentum, with a new partnership between Wesgro and Emirates aimed at driving inbound tourism to the Western Cape.

The Memorandum of Understanding was reached at the World Travel Market Africa this past week as the two partners look to collaborate on marketing Cape Town and the surrounding region as a key global destination for visitors from the Gulf, India and the Far East.

The agreement focuses on boosting visitor demand through Emirates’ international network. It aligns with Emirates’ route expansion, with the introduction of a third daily flight between Dubai and Cape Town as of 20 April.

This new MoU adds to ongoing airline partnerships and capacity increases, such as the recent Air France‑KLM Group's strategic agreement with Cape Town Tourism to stimulate travel demand from European markets and boost connectivity options for local travellers.

While the airline industry continues to calibrate against the global turmoil in the oil market due to the war in the Middle East, these collaborations, along with new and expanded routes, signal continued confidence from global airlines in Cape Town as a tourism destination - and reinforce its position as one of Africa’s most connected long-haul destinations.
