Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard has a new summer hotspot as Morea House, Autograph Collection, opens just a frisbee throw from the sparkling sands of Camps Bay Beach. More than just another new hotel, it’s also the first Autograph Collection property to open in Cape Town, bringing fresh momentum to the city’s rapidly expanding luxury hotel scene.
Set right across Victoria Road from Camps Bay Beach, the 90-room hotel is situated on prime sunset territory, offering uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean (for sea view rooms) or Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles.
Morea House lands just as Cape Town is gearing up for the peak summer season, offering a stylish base within walking distance of the promenade’s restaurants and bars, as well as the prime beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton.
Design plays a central role in Morea House, with interiors by Cape Town–based, award-winning designer Tristan du Plessis (also responsible for the recent opening of Amura at Mount Nelson), whose studio specialises in high-impact hospitality spaces worldwide.
Here, Du Plessis brings a palette of timber, stone, and bronze tones layered with sculptural forms and soft textures. It all aims to echo the contrast between mountain, sea, and sand visible outside the picture windows. Guestrooms and suites take full advantage of those views, with custom furniture and tactile details that emphasise a sense of place.
The same applies to the public spaces, which evoke a sense of opulence and grandeur while still feeling closely connected to their location. This is best seen at OMRI, a ground-floor restaurant serving modern Lebanese cuisine with a Cape coastal influence. You’ll want to book early for a sea-view booth. There’s also the Pool Restaurant, which transitions from a relaxed lunch spot to a sundowner venue as the light fades over Camps Bay.
Speaking of pools, guests will love the pool terrace for all-day lounging and golden-hour cocktails. Indoors (because, you know, winter) offers quieter corners and a courtyard showcasing South African art, as well as The Wine Room for exploring the Cape’s best cellars.
There’s wellness on offer too, with spa treatments inspired by local fynbos, and there’s even a 'guided cold-water immersion' (aka, a swim) in the Atlantic for those who can’t brave the chilly seas alone.
“When guests arrive, our intention is for them to feel as if they’ve discovered a sanctuary created just for them. We want them to leave restored, reconnected, and carrying with them the essence of this place,” says Albert Smit, General Manager of Morea House. “Whether our guests are seeking a romantic escape, a personal reset, or a base for exploring the Cape’s beaches, vineyards, and mountains, Morea House delivers a distinctive experience rooted in place, unlike anywhere else.”
Morea House also arrives at an exciting time for luxury hotels in Cape Town. At the V&A Waterfront, the landmark Table Bay Hotel is in the final stages of a R1-billion transformation into InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town, reopening in mid-December after a significant refurbishment.
In Sea Point, Kove Collection’s new boutique address The Cole, opens this December, while in the CBD, Pullman Cape Town City Centre has already established a stylish presence in the former Triangle House tower. With a Mamashelter on the cards for Bree Street, and a brand-new Tintswalo destination in the works, there’s never been a better time to find a fabulous place to stay in Cape Town.
