The V&A Waterfront is undergoing a remarkable transformation, maintaining its appeal as one of Cape Town's most iconic tourist destinations.

Part of that reinvigoration is offering locals and visitors alike a world-class setting and experience, which includes the complete refurbishment of the Table Bay hotel, first opened by former President Nelson Mandela in 1997.

The hotel closed in February of this year, as much of its interior had been demolished as part of the multimillion-rand refurbishment. It is now set for a soft opening today as InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town, becoming Cape Town’s first InterContinental. Sun International remains a key local partner, positioning it as a flagship luxury experience, with the full reveal expected over the coming weeks.

Developers state the revamp inspiration rests in its "extraordinary surroundings of where sea, mountain and contemporary elegance meet."

The hotel now features a new 6th-floor addition with an exclusive Club InterContinental Private Lounge, overlooking the harbour and offering views of Table Mountain.

Looking to exceed its culinary benchmark, Michelin-star chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen now takes up residence with Le Bistro de JAN, bringing his "renowned French bistro concept, reimagined with South African flair."

“It may be a shiny new jewel, but key elements were preserved. The most precious of these is our team," states Joanne Selby, InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town General Manager. "All staff have been retained, and we look forward to delivering elevated hospitality with the familiar faces our guests know.”

Selby adds, "Every touchpoint is designed for elevated, personalised service. The hotel will offer dedicated Concierge expertise, Planet Trekkers for young explorers, a state-of-the-art gym, a bespoke spa, and effortless access to the V&A Waterfront."

The hotel's strategic partnership with IHG also includes its IHG One Rewards loyalty programme, connecting guests to a global network of over 6,000 hotels and resorts and more than 130 million members worldwide.
