The creative minds behind the food at VUUR and Heirloom are joining forces for something special this Heritage Month.

On the 25th and 26th of September, Heirloom at the Cape Grace Hotel will be hosting a four-hands collaboration between their own Executive Chef Wesli Jacobs and the master of fire from Stellenbosch's VUUR, Chef Shaun Scrooby.

With only eight sittings over the two days, this is expected to be the hottest ticket in town as the event celebrates our country's heritage through food.

What's on the menu?

The menu has been and will only ever be written once and served once.

Diners can expect dishes shaped by two sets of hands and two genuinely distinct points of view, encompassing a five-course menu, paired with wine.

Expect incredible fire-cooked steak, mouthwatering seafood and a classic South African dessert.

For those who may be unaware, VUUR has built its name on national storytelling told through fire, while Heirloom does the same wrapped in refined dining, working through ingredient, memory and technique.

Time Out Tip: VUUR's classic rooster broodjie with bone marrow butter will form part of the menu, so you don't have to worry about that. I still think about those delights over a year after I first visited VUUR.

What the chefs have to say

"South African cooking was never one story, and it was never meant to be. At Cape Grace, Heirloom gives us a space to bring different voices around the same table and to keep that conversation moving forward. Chef Shaun Scrooby and his team work with fire and with an instinct for place that I have long admired. Bringing that into Heirloom over Heritage Weekend feels like the right way to mark the occasion, in the company of people who care where this cuisine is headed." Wesli Jacobs, Executive Chef, Heirloom.

"Fire has always been about place for us, it tells you what's around you and what the land is giving that day. Heirloom works from a different angle, but we're circling the same thing: food that says something true about where it comes from. Cooking alongside Wesli and his team for Heritage Weekend, in the city, for guests who might never make it out to the farm, feels like exactly the right way to share that." Shaun Scrooby, Chef and Owner, VUUR.
