Roses are red, violets are blue. You might be single, but Time Out is here to help you. Okay, okay, it's cheesy. But it felt right.

With December and summer just a few months away, we’re here to help you set the scene for that romantic sunset picnic at Clifton Beach – chocolate-covered strawberries, shared smiles, and maybe even a spark with someone new.

This September guide, like all of our dating-scene recommendations, focuses on spaces where you can meet like-minded people in a relaxed, no-pressure, and most importantly, safe environment. Worst-case scenario? You don’t meet the one, but you walk away with a few lifelong friends.

That’s a win in our book.

And just so we're clear: if this leads to marriage, we fully expect a shoutout in the vows.

Already found that special someone and need a great date idea? Check out the best things to do in Cape Town right now!

Where to spice things up this September

One Table. Six Strangers.

Meetable brings like-minded people together through curated dining experiences – think great food, better conversations, and who knows... maybe the dinner-table candles won’t be the only flickering flame.

What to expect:

  • Join and quiz: First, become a Meetable member and take a short quiz. This helps them get to know you and match you with dinner guests who share your interests.
  • Leave the planning to them: Once you’re matched, just show up! They handle all the details.
  • Connect and enjoy: Have meaningful conversations, meet new people, and most importantly, have fun.

Event details:

  • Date: 2 September and every Tuesday after that
  • Time: Dinners begin at 7 pm
  • Location: The confirmed venue and table details are sent approximately 24 hours before the dinner via email and WhatsApp.
  • Age: 21 to 60 years
  • Price: R200 experience fee per person, which includes access to the Meetable After-Dinner Event (payable online in advance). Food and drinks to be settled individually with the venue.

Come Hungry, Leave With a Full Heart and Belly

For many, cooking is a true love language – and let’s be honest, who could say no to a delicious, homemade meal? If you’ve ever dreamed of living your MasterChef fantasy, this date night is calling your name. Cue That’s Amore by Dean Martin!

What to expect:

  • 20 men and 20 women. One delicious opportunity to connect.
  • A long, shared dinner table (because the best conversations happen over good food)
  • A hands-on ravioli-making masterclass

Event details:

  • Date: 18 September
  • Time: 6 pm to 9 pm
  • Location: Soet Studio, a Food Jams Venue | 30 Fairview Ave, Woodstock
  • Age: 18+
  • Price: Tickets are R600 per person and can be purchased here

Time Out Tip: Cooking’s more fun with a glass in hand! Bring your favourite bottle to sip as you stir.
