Explore Green Point Park

Kids’ play areas, open lawns, picnic spots, gardens and learning spaces make Green Point Park the kind of place where children naturally slow down, get curious and burn off holiday energy. It’s certainly a very green family favourite in its safe, spacious and beautifully designed setting. Enchanting outdoor spaces include the Biodiversity Showcase Garden, the Experiential Education Garden (EEG), the Dome Education Centre and an open-air amphitheatre.

Watch the kids skip along the Outdoor Labyrinth or join a guided tour to find out about the impressive 300 species of fynbos.

Fun in the sun at leafy Paradise Park

t’s the perfect spot for kids to play freely while parents relax in the shade. Tucked between Claremont and Newlands, Paradise Park feels like a secret garden straight out of a storybook.

The star attraction is Cape Town’s largest treehouse, with ladders, bridges, platforms, swings and slides that invite imaginative play.

It’s a magical back garden every child dreams about, thanks to the other two well-equipped playgrounds - and the shallow edges of the Liesbeek River offering hours of fun.

Action-packed Battery Park

Get the kids moving at Battery Park, a lively urban playground at the V&A Waterfront designed for active family fun.

From a free skate park and BMX area to a basketball court that doubles as a soccer pitch, there’s plenty to keep kids entertained.

Take in jaw-dropping views over the waterfront from the raised sections of the park as your little kids explore the jungle gym, swings, rocking horses and scooter-friendly paths. Break out the sarmies and Fanta, kick back and relax.

Head for the hills

If the kids have done all the usual hikes like the Pipe Track, Elephant's Eye or Lion's Head, why not try something off the beaten track?

Little Lion's Head, situated just off Valley View Drive in Hout Bay, near the scenic Suikerbossie Drive, is a moderate hike of approximately one hour. It can take a bit longer, though, as the paths are not as broad or clearly marked as the actual Lion's Head next to Table Mountain.

It does have the added safety benefit of being within a gated park; however, it is best to keep within the restricted opening and closing times for this one.  During the summer, the gate is open from 6 am to 8 pm, and from 8 am to 6 pm during winter.
