Capítulo Perfeito went all the way to the other side of the world, but the story always comes back to Carcavelos. The special edition of the event came to an end this Tuesday, 9 September, at Desert Point, in Lombok, Indonesia, with victory for Hawaii’s Makana Pang – and direct entry to the 2027 edition, set to take place in Carcavelos.
It was the first time, in 12 editions, that the perfect-barrel event left Portugal. And its international debut could hardly have chosen a more demanding stage: Desert Point. Over six hours, eight invited surfers battled two-metre waves in a format that, since 2012, has valued only what matters at Capítulo Perfeito: time and quality inside the barrel.
Makana Pang closed the final with 17.57 points and the only perfect 10 of the entire event, ahead of Brazil’s Bruno Santos, who finished second with 16.76, Ícaro Ronchi, third with 15.43, and Indonesia’s Usman Trioko, fourth with 10.60.
“Being part of the first-ever surf event at Desert Point was an honour. And getting a perfect 10 in the final was a dream come true,” said the winner, quoted in a statement. “Being out there with only three other people in the water is probably one of the craziest things I have ever experienced in surfing.”
The victory earned him more than the title. Pang also secured a direct wildcard for Capítulo Perfeito 2027, in Carcavelos, adding another international name to the horizon of the competition that was born in Portugal and continues to have the Cascais line as one of its homes.
Before that, though, there is still this year’s edition to follow. Capítulo Perfeito 2026, initially scheduled for another point in the calendar, has been postponed and now has a waiting period from 1 November to 15 December. As always, the exact date will only be confirmed when the sea gives the signal.
In the end, Lombok served as proof of what the event wants to continue to be: a call to some of the best tube riders in the world. Now, after the perfect day at Desert Point, all eyes turn back to Carcavelos.
