Now that is a comeback. The Open de Portugal Cascais-Lisboa returns to the DP World Tour in 2027, almost a decade after its last appearance on Europe’s main circuit, and the dates are already set. From 13 to 16 May, some of the best international players will head to Oitavos Dunes Links Golf, in Cascais. The announcement marks a new chapter for one of Portuguese golf’s most historic tournaments. The return is part of a three-year commitment, from 2027 to 2029, securing the Open de Portugal Cascais-Lisboa’s place on the DP World Tour and Race to Dubai calendars. The 2027 edition will be worth 3500 points for the competition. In plain English, that means the tournament once again counts towards the season-long DP World Tour race, where players collect points throughout the year to reach the circuit’s decisive stages.
The chosen setting is no small detail either. Oitavos Dunes Links Golf will host the tournament for the fifth time, after the 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009 editions. Between the Atlantic and the Sintra mountains, the course once again puts Cascais at the centre of the international golf conversation.
But the ambition for this new phase is not only about results on the green. The organisation wants to turn the tournament into a broader experience, bringing together competition, hospitality, food, entertainment and social spaces. In other words: golf for those who take the game very seriously, but also for anyone who wants to experience the event atmosphere before, during and after play.
Created in 1953, the Open de Portugal first joined the DP World Tour calendar in 1973, at Penina Golf Club, in the Algarve. Since then, it has been played across 14 different courses in Portugal and has had winners including Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Bjørn, Sam Torrance, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Howard Clark and Mark McNulty.
