The perfect guide for Valentine's Day

Love is a fire that burns unseen; it’s a spa day to mark a special occasion, a romantic dinner at your favourite hotel. Between the declarations of lyrical poets and the gestures of your other half, love can mean many different things to each of us.

Cascais is many things. It’s home, it’s a weekend escape, it’s paradise for those just passing through and those who stay. But it can also be a seriously romantic destination – which is why special offers have been lined up to make Valentine’s Day one to remember. And don’t fall for the old line that no planning is required. It is. Always. So spare yourself the awkwardness of underwhelming romantic plans and follow the itinerary we’ve mapped out for you. Just a heads-up: chocolates, flowers or jewellery are still very much recommended.

Morning: sea views, spa time and plans for two

If the plan is to make Valentine’s Day more than a rushed dinner, the InterContinental Cascais-Estoril is rolling out a Romantic Week from 7 to 14 February, tailored to each couple. And here, “tailored” isn’t just a turn of phrase: packages can include a stay, spa experiences and a special Valentine’s dinner, mixed and matched to suit your pace – because some couples want bubbles and massages, while others prefer sea views and silence. The highlight lands on the night of 14 February, with a menu designed for sharing. It begins with a sea-and-spice-inspired amuse-bouche, moves on to a platter of seafood, sushi and sashimi to split (because that’s love, too), continues with carefully prepared fish and meat courses, and ends with a strawberry and white chocolate heart-shaped dessert. Dinner is €75 per person (drinks not included), with wine pairing available for an additional €25. Reservations can be made via email (liset.reservations@ihg.com) or by phone (+351 218 291 100).

Afternoon: a romantic stroll

Before dinner, swap the predictable bouquet for something a little less obvious. Cascais Happy Tours offers a two-hour walk through romantic corners of the town, weaving together tales of forbidden love, secret stories and real-life passions lived out by those who once passed through. It’s not just a stroll – it’s a journey through the narratives that turned Cascais into a backdrop for meetings and missed connections. The tour lasts two hours and costs €45 per person (minimum of two people), with special rates for families of four or more. Ideal for those who enjoy walking hand in hand – but also appreciate a good story along the way.

At dinner: a table set for two

At Bougain Cascais, Valentine’s Day comes with a set menu and zero dithering. For €60 per person, the experience includes a welcome drink, couvert, starter, main, dessert, water and coffee. It begins with sourdough bread and garlic-herb butter, moves on to a mushroom vol-au-vent, and then splits between sea bass with lemon and dill risotto or confit duck with orange sauce and sweet potato purée. To finish: tiramisù. Simple, elegant, effective. Reservations run in two sittings, at 7pm and 9.30pm.

At Corleone, romance is answered with an exclusive €65-per-person menu. Expect a welcome drink, couvert (focaccia, grissini and olives), a burrata antipasto with raspberry vinaigrette, raviolone di gamberi, and then a choice between roasted branzino with caponata or sirloin escalopes with mushroom risotto. Dessert is a tiramisù ai frutti di bosco – savoiardi biscuits layered with red berries and strawberry-raspberry sauce. Again, two sittings: 7pm and 9.30pm. The usual à la carte steps aside for a menu crafted specifically for the occasion, down to the last detail.

If you’re looking to raise the bar (because if you’re celebrating, you might as well do it properly), The Mix at the Farol Hotel offers a Valentine’s menu at €80 per person. The evening starts with a welcome drink, followed by aromatic miso soup with fresh oyster, cordyceps mushrooms and local prawns, then a “passionate” sushi selection and pineapple fried rice with coconut milk and tiger prawns. Dessert? A candy apple. Drinks not included and booking is essential. Yes, romance requires planning.

At the Arribas Hotel restaurant, Valentine’s Day unfolds through a sensory menu created by Chef Rodrigo Tiago. Inspired by the world of perfume, the experience develops like a fragrance – opening with fresh notes, deepening along the way and leaving a lasting impression. Wine pairing is provided by AdegaMãe, with bottles selected to complement each course. More than a meal, it’s a blend of aromas, textures and flavours. Romance here smells (very) good indeed.

At night: stay a little longer

If you’re keen to stretch out the celebrations, circle back to where you started and turn dinner into a full weekend. The Romantic Week at the InterContinental Cascais-Estoril lets you bundle together a stay, spa time and dinner into one seamless plan.

You can also extend the night with the Valentine’s Package at the Farol Hotel, which transforms your dinner reservation into a proper getaway for two. It includes an overnight stay for two, a romantic VIP welcome on arrival and dinner at The Mix. Prices vary depending on the room: garden-view doubles from €330, sea-view doubles from €360, superior doubles at €395 and junior suites at €640. The rate is valid for the night of 14 February and includes the special set menu.
