Sea Heikes is an AIR at Spread Art, working on two ongoing performative/research projects:

source to mouth
A performative gesture. A line drawn upon the earth. In this ongoing series, Sea Heikes travels by foot, bicycle, and/or boat along bodies of water. For this piece in Detroit, she will travel from Anchor Bay to Lake Erie via bicycle, take field recordings in the form of sound/video/still image. These pieces will be used in a projected image and sound during the live performance of:

i <3 u (like water)
A performative meditation on the body's relationship to water. As metaphor. As necessity. As container. This piece has been performed in several iterations throughout South East Asia and in San Francisco.

Sea Heikes will host a two workshops that culminates in a performance with participants.

Monday July 11th 6-9pm

Through Butoh, Body Weather, and Somatic Movement practices we discover the processes and phenomena that we normally consider "outside of ourselves" to be contained within the flesh. Our specific inquiry for this workshop is around the Noguchi idea of "water body".

Three hour workshop is broken into four parts:
1. Introductory experiment to help loosen daily self from the body. Involving a sensory exploration (often blindfolded to help open other senses).
2. Deep Relaxation Exercises
3. 45 minute Kinesthetic Movement (be prepared to sweat - A LOT) Mind-Body dynamic is challenged.
4. Partner work, using movement experiments to create snippets of choreography

A change of clothes may be necessary. Bring water. Maybe a light snack. The workshop is for anyone - no experience necessary!

Performance will be on Thursday, July 14th @ 8pm
@ Spread Art (doors open 7:30)

Sea Heikes / Oakland, CA

Sea Heikes is a butoh-based performance artist and lover of ecology. Her performances are based on the somatic connection to natural processes perceived as external from the body. Her work is generally stripped down, minimalistic, focusing on the abstraction of the body, resonance, and light.
