Light Box says
Workshop with Chicago artist in residence, Sara Zalek.

Butoh training is an invaluable tool for dancers, actors, creative people of all types. Sara Zalek leads you in exercises to expand your body physically and energetically through breath and meditation techniques, Tai Chi, Noguchi gymnastics, and guided visual imagery. This workshop will dwell on ideas of the transformative body and the importance of the lived moment, in order to experience some essential concepts in Butoh.

This is a supportive environment to start an individual and collective process of investigation through creative movement. We will open and expand our awareness, move with our subtler senses, create and witness our personal body language.

All are welcome. No prior movement experience is required.

Time: 1-5pm
Fee: sliding scale $15-35

Sara Zalek is a performance artist obsessed with time travel, hybrids, and the intentional act of transformation. Sara uses Butoh training, poetry, drawing, and object-making to ignite dialog with the public using unexpected encounters; always with unknowns, often with humor, with an intentional focus on the moment when the self is limitless potential.

Zalek has received grant awards with the City of Chicago's CAAP and DCASE, the LinkUp Residency, the University of Illinois and is a current Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artist. She has performed in over 80 unique collaborations and solo works at venues nationally. She currently teaches and produces workshops and events through Butoh Chicago.
