Freedom House Detroit is the only organization in the United States providing shelter, legal services and comprehensive social services at no charge and all under one roof for asylum seekers--refugees from around the world who are fleeing violence and persecution due to their political beliefs, religious affiliation, nationality, race or sexual orientation.

Freedom House was recently informed that its Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant, which accounts for 60% of the annual budget and which it has received for the last 20 years, would not be renewed due to shifting priorities at the federal agency The rejection comes despite the fact that Freedom House is one of Detroit’s most successful HUD grantees: 93% of Freedom House’s clients exit the program into permanent, independent housing.

Effective April 1, 2017, Freedom House must operate without HUD funding. In order to continue to provide quality comprehensive services to individuals from around the world fleeing persecution and torture, seeking asylum, we need your help.
