Installation: The Fierce Urgency Of Now

Flower House says
in response to friday's inauguration, i am creating a collaborative structure in corktown’s roosevelt park that will remain friday through sunday for detroiters to freely experience in reflection on the incoming administration.

the structure will offer a journey to visitors: through the unfriendly darkness of a tunnel built from locally-foraged felled trees to face oneself in a mirror.

i am asking that you take a moment and a selfie to pledge to yourself--and your community--one issue that you will hold as your fierce urgency for the duration of the next four years. of course, i am borrowing the phrase “the fierce urgency of now” from martin luther king, jr., and will quote him once again for our collective task at the installation: “this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to make real the promises of democracy.”

again: the installation will be open and free to the public friday through sunday.

those interested in voluteering to build the installation are welcome and appreciated. more info here:
