Italian Soda | Scavenger Quartet says
Italian Soda presents a pleasant mixture of pop music sunniness and chamber music artfulness, putting a bassoon in the role of lead melodic instrument. The vocals are often employed as an instrument rather than a vehicle for lyrics and they are adeptly delivered without the irritating qualities that can sometimes plague this approach. Occasionally there are forays into more ominous territory, as well as some AACM-like themes poking through, but overall the vibe is fun and friendly, with enough surprises to keep it interesting.

Scavenger Quartet is a now rarely appearing Detroit band lead by composer/musician Frank Pahl. Also an approachable experimental group, Scavenger Quartet has often featured automatons, electronics and a fluid acoustic instrumentation that sometimes lend an otherworldly character to their sound.

Frank Pahl: piano, strings, homemades etc.
Doug Gorlay: percussion, homemades
Tim Holmes: saxophone, flute etc.
Joel Peterson: doublebass, strings, siren
