About the work...

Cirque Noir:
Inspired by the endless possibilities of a balloon at rest, "Cirque Noir" gives a nod to the clowns of commedia dell’arte and the cynical, sensual characteristics of film noir. As cinema historian Mark Bould observed regarding the film noir genre, the balloons in this work remain an “elusive phenomenon...always just out of reach.”

Four Letter Word:
Through the timeless love songs of Motown artists like The Contours, Mel Carter, and Paul Anka, Four Letter Word transports the audience to an alternate 1950s dimension. A talented cast of athletic and sensual women satirically explore the awkward, tender, and complicated sides of love, like, and lust.

About Karianne Hollowell...

Artist, musician, singer/songwriter, Karianne Hollowell has a multifaceted approach to create. Various genres, sounds, stories, people, and imagery inspire her to make music, and since learning to play guitar by ear at age nine, and piano at five, she's felt an overwhelming desire to artistically share her ideas. Based in Detroit, she also finds great inspiration from the cityin the juxtaposition of nature and industry, both trying to thrive simultaneously; concepts that differ from her rural, Michigan hometown.
She believes that we do not just play with our hands, or sing with our vocal chords; the physical manifestation of what we make comes from a much deeper part of who we are as beings, and this authentic expression has the potential to bring people together. Her yearning to connect people through her stories and experiences can be felt in her raw, honest songwriting and voice.
