Logan's Run Screening At The Senate Theater! says
Starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordon and Peter Ustinov

Teen-focused sci-fi dystopias are all the rage at the moment, with the likes of The Maze Runner, Divergent, The Host, and of course the Hunger Games. But none of them can hold a candle to Michael Anderson's classic Logan's Run, which was made the year before Star Wars came along and changed sci-fi blockbusters forever.

Based on the cult novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, the film is set in 2274, with the remnants of humanity living in a computer-controlled, sealed, domed city after a non-specific apocalypse. 23rd century society is pretty much a utopia: citizens get to shop, take drugs and have sex as much as they like, with the central computers taking care of reproduction and, it's implied, child-rearing.

There's just one catch: when you turn 30, you are deemed no longer useful to society and you have to either take your chances in a bizarre floaty ritual called The Carousel (masked, robed citizens float upwards and are vaporised, believing they are being "renewed") or you make a run for it.

That's where the film's hero, Logan 5 (Michael York) comes in. He's a Sandman, a hedonistic 26 year-old who's essentially a cop, tasked with tracking down and "terminating" Runners. When Logan meets beautiful Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter) on the Sex Teleport (we have this to look forward to in the future!), he discovers that a resistance movement of sorts exists, with its members fervently believing in a place outside the dome known as "Sanctuary".

When Logan reports his findings, he is tasked with infiltrating the resistance, finding Sanctuary and destroying it. However to his dismay, the computer forwards his life-clock by four years, meaning that his time is up unless he becomes a Runner.

With Jessica by his side, Logan makes a thrilling escape from the Dome, but they're not prepared for what they find outside the city and their view of the world is irrevocably shattered when they meet the World's Oldest Man (Peter Ustinov). To make matters worse, they also find themselves pursued by Logan's best friend and former Sandman partner, Francis 7 (Richard Jordan), who seems to have gone off the deep end and is intent on killing Logan.
