Has it been five years? Indeed. Five years, 30 exhibitions featuring over 100 artists, nine Good Tyme Writer's Buffets, four operas, one robotic smash-up derby and countless impromptu dance parties. And we're still here. Now that's something to celebrate.
And so we go back to where we started. In 2010 Tim Hailey's "Take A Chance on Rock and Roll LIVE" installation introduced Public Pool to the world. On March 7th of 2015 he's back with "I Only Want to See You Underneath," featuring his large-scale Tyvek murals. The show takes its name from a Prince lyric, and features mash ups of the musician and his motorcycle, the girl from the famous Blind Faith album cover, the space shuttle Challenger, and the streets of Hamtramck in an over-sized mediation on hope, loss and culture. “My first show here was all about laying bets on the power of culture to transform,” said Hailey. “Now the bets are in, transformations are underway and the outcome is uncertain. This show, I think, reflects the larval state of things – here and everywhere.”
So, come and reflect on the state of things. The state of a five-year run for Public Pool, the state of a city, the state of Rock-and-Roll.
