Lecture by Tim Scholl, Professor of Russian and Comparative Literature at Oberlin College. Alexei Ratmansky’s new production of Sleeping Beauty for American Ballet Theater (being performed this week at the Detroit Opera House) is causing a rather unprecedented stir in the dance community. Scholl’s lecture will explore historical performance, authenticity, and the role of the re-stager/choreographer, as well as the ephemeral nature of ballet as an art form and how best to preserve it. Using video and musical examples.

FREE and open to the public, however a ticket is required. Hosted by Detroit Opera House, University Musical Society and the Carr Center
