Red Bull House Of Art Resident Artists Exhibition says
Join us for the opening of our first Resident Artists Exhibition of 2017 featuring new work from Mr. Kiji, Tschabalala Self, and Ellannah Sadkin created during their 3-month residency at Red Bull House of Art.

This event is free & open to the public of all ages.
Doors will be open from 7pm - 10pm.

Mr. Kiji is a Japanese-born artist based in New York City. His work spans multiple mediums, unleashing his distinctive pop art-fueled style via animations, murals of all scale and editorial drawings for the New Yorker, Bloomberg and more. In addition to receiving a degree in industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design, Mr. Kiji was formally trained in the Tibetan Buddhist Thangka painting.

Tschabalala Self builds a singular style from the syncretic use of both painting and printmaking to explore ideas about the black female body. Self constructs exaggerated depictions of female bodies using a combination of sewn, printed, and painted materials, traversing different artistic and craft traditions. The exaggerated biological characteristics of her figures reflect Self’s own experiences and cultural attitudes toward race and gender.

Ellannah Sadkin uses acrylic and graffiti pens to put her surrealist cartooning on the canvas. A product of the 1990s and its vivid array of bizarre cartoons, Sadkin has a found way to remix classic cartoon imagery with the feel of the New York graffiti from the same era creating a style completely her own in the process.

Red Bull House of Art is a live-in residency experience in Detroit, dedicated to providing visual artists the freedom and space to create. Our aim is to support courageous exploration in visual arts.
