SAMPLED at Cave Gallery
is pleased to invite you to a conversation about the show and the art of process with critics Lynn Crawford and Sarah Rose Sharp.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 23rd from 2-4 p.m.
Cave Gallery Detroit

Come out and see the work and stay for the inspiring discussion about studio practice, process and materials. Rosie Sharp has already given great insight in her article in Hyperallergic (, and there is more to come! We are lucky to have these two writers give insight to the work on display, as well as the process of art-making in general.

Sarah Rose Sharp is a Detroit-based writer, activist, photographer and multimedia artist. She writes about art and culture in Detroit for Hyperallergic, The Knight Arts Foundation, ZIPR Magazine, infinite mile, Essay’d and others. She was recently named a 2015 Kresge Literary Art Fellow for Arts Critcism.

Lynn Crawford is an art critic and fiction writer. Her criticism has appeared in Art in America, Tema Celeste, Metro Times, Zing, Parkett, Modern Painters, American Ceramics and The Brooklyn Rail. Her books include Solow, Blow, Simply Separate People and Fortification Resort, a collection of sestinas responding to the work of visual artists. She is a founding board member of Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.

Eight Detroit artists, linked by shared interests in labor, craft, process and material, join together to engage in dialogue by actively and regularly visiting each others' studios. In Sampled, the audience is invited to join our conversation and studio explorations. By sharing in the artists’ private investigations, we hope to further reveal some of the questions and answers found within studio practice.

Artists include: Corrie Baldauf, Lynn Bennett Carpenter, Annica Cuppetelli, Carrie Dickason, Jessica Frelinghuysen, Megan Heeres, Rod Klingelhofer, and Jeremy Noonan
