Soar Quartet, Olzone Psy Trio says
An evening with some of our favorite acts in creative music! Soar Quartet is the Detroit-based ensemble of Bay-Area native Tholllem McDonas, featuring Skeeter Shelton (winds), Joel Peterson (doublebass) and Kurt Prisbe (drums). Thollem is a composer, improvisor and keyboard virtuoso who has worked with everyone from Lou Harrison to Jad Fair, Terry Riley to Mike Watt, Pauline Oliveros to Nels Cline, William Parker to Faruq Z. Bey- and many, many others. His recordings number in the dozens and -- despite being a native of the Bay -- many of Thollem's projects and ensembles have been Detroit-based over the past decade. A partial list includes the groups BoxDeserter, Soar Trio, Soar Quartet and the Trinosophes commissioned collaboration with composer Clem Fortuna, Microtonal Piano Works. Silver Ochre, his current project with his partner ACVilla, started as a documentary film made across the country during the run-up to the presidential election. It has since expanded into a multi-year project in six iinstallments.

Organix Trio is an ensemble featuring Jamal Moore, who blew us away last year with his other group, Ancestral Duo. Jamal R. Moore is a multi-instrumentalist, composer/performer, and educator, and native of Baltimore, Maryland who has worked with notable musicians such as Wadada Leo Smith (2013 Pulitzer finalist), Nicole Mitchell, Sabir Mateen, Roscoe Mitchell, David Ornette Cherry (Organic Roots Nation), Dr. Bill Cole, DJ Lou Gorbea, and the late George Duke and Sheila E. He is a long-term member of KREation and Conference of The Birds ensembles directed by Kevin Robinson. He was also a member of The Pan African Peoples Arkestra, founded by pianist Horace Tapscott, the Calvin Gant ensemble directed by Calvin Gant and Nicole Mitchell; and Joyful Noise Band under the direction of Luke Stewart. Jamal currently leads his own groups, Akebulan Arkestra, Napata Ensemble, lack lements Quartet, and Organix Trio.
