Friday, Sept 11: Terakaft (from Mali)

Terakaft is a Tuareg guitar-band that includes an early member and several relatives of Tinariwen, the most internationally-recognized music group of this nomadic Saharan Desert people in Mali. A founder of both groups, guitarist Sanou Ag Ahmed's rhythm guitar playing has been widely influential on Tuareg music and is often compared to the lope of a camel. Although the sound of both groups is similar, Terakaft is more stripped down and raw; frequent guitar breaks punctuate the droning, polyrhythmic grooves and antiphonal, chanted vocals, creating a hypnotic dance party that's sure to be one of the not-to-be-missed shows of the year.

Opening DJ set by Jay Daniel.
9 pm doors; $10.

Advanced general admission tickets on sale at Trinosophes and over the phone during business hours.
