The Moles LIVE
Saturday, October 22nd
Doors 7:30pm / Show 8:30pm

Richard Davies, the frontman of the legendary Australian psych-pop outfit the Moles will be joined on-stage by a new, Detroit incarnation of the band.

Brain-child of one Richard Davies, The Moles were an Australian chamber-pop band, who broke up in 1993, only for Davies to use the Moles moniker for the release of what was effectively his solo debut album ‘Instinct’. Flexing chamber pop with symphonic bursts and psychedelic whimsy, it would not over-flatter to describe it as a latter-day John Barry sound-track for the cool generation. Subsequently, Davies joined forced with multi-instrumentalist and arranger Eric Matthews to form the duo Cardinal, which released their lush self-titled debut to great acclaim, before resuming a solo career. Davies’ songwriting has attracted the attention and fandom of no less than Robert Pollard (of Guided by Voices) and the Flaming Lips, who have variously performed with Davies live and on record. Not to miss! The Moles will be playing a one-off show at Third Man Records, Cass Corridor on October 22, 2016.

“The greatest differentiator between the work of the Moles and that of their contemporaries, though, is Davies himself. As a presence, there is something deeply and beguilingly inscrutable about him, a purposeful blankness that betrays an enormous amount of weight and depth behind it, and oozes both vulnerability and vitriol when it breaks and cracks.” – PITCHFORK

Davies' latest release is a revival of The Moles by-line, released in the UK and US on the Fire recording label.
