Arab American National Museum says
The Arab American National Museum (AANM), in conjunction with UNITY: Journalists for Diversity, CAIR - Michigan, Take On Hate, and ADC - Michigan, are pleased to host a town hall meeting at the AANM on Friday, Sept 11th at 6:00PM.

The event, free and open to the public, will focus on issues facing the Arab and Muslim American communities in Michigan regarding their media representation. The town hall will also be an opportunity for journalists to share best practices on helping the community get its stories out, as well as an opportunity for community members and organizations to voice their concerns. This is the time for communities to come together and share our story, depict how we want to be portrayed, let your voice be heard, and resist stereotypes that we all too often see in the media.

Michigan State University journalism professor, Joe Grimm will moderate the town hall and will be joined by Chicago Tribune Standards Editor, Margaret Holt, syndicated Los Angeles-based cartoonist, Lalo Alcaraz, and the Arab American News publisher, Osama Siblani.

The event also will feature a light reception and a gallery stroll with Somali American artist, Mohamud Mumin’s “The Youth/Dhallinyarada” exhibit that focuses on young Muslim, Somali men living in America’s heartland. The exhibit is part of the AANM’s continuing effort to combat stereotypes.

Hope to see you there!
