The June edition of Wanna Dance? is proud to present another one of Detroit's finest talent and a woman who knows her wax…

Rebecca Goldberg (All Vinyl Set)

Back when radio ruled and the boom-box gave us mixtapes, live broadcasts were the very essence of the Detroit club-music scene. Rebecca was inspired by Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale and poured over the cherished tunes from New Order, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Lords of Acid, Depeche Mode, The Cure and Blur just to name a few, as well as early Techno and House music pioneers like Inner City, Joey Beltram, etc. that were spun on Saturday nights at the State Theatre’s legendary “Club X”. It was only a matter of time before this elementary school kid would satiate her musical appetite as a disc jockey.

Growing up with dance and music lessons complimented her audio and technical education. Technology was turning cassettes into CDs and Rebecca’s frequent trips to Harmony House fueled her collection. Fast forward through the dawn of the digital arts. The now University of Michigan graduate launched her own graphic design work, giving way to more musical introductions and opportunities.

You can chase dreams or make them come true. Today her artwork is visible around Detroit and the world, and Rebecca is learning the tools and techniques to contribute her own musical productions to the airwaves and the nightclubs. Her mixes are influenced by the past, but you can hear the future in the dark dancefloor cuts and underground jams collected in her travels.

As always, resident wax master Pontchartrain will be slaying it early.
