Start with some stretching

It’s always good to stretch before you jump into anything too active, so why not head over at 6am with your yoga mat for teacher Claudia Strydom’s yoga class?

With a teaching residency at GuruCat Yoga in Umhlanga, Strydom describes her approach as creating space for people to meet their edge on the mat, open their heart space and experience movement differently.

Take some time to catch up with mates over a cup of coffee before the energy levels rise!

Veranda Panda brings the party

At 7.30am, it’s time to Wake and Shake.

Husband-and-wife duo Veranda Panda blend classical instrumentation with electronic production, combining electric violin, dual vocals and live electronic beats.

This is a live performance in every sense, with the duo creating their sound on stage rather than relying on backing tracks.

For Heritage Day, they are extending the experience with a longer set and a few surprises.

“In terms of the set, we’re upping the experience with an extended set, a couple of guest performances, and some South African-inspired additions to the playlist,” says one half of the duo, Liam Magner. “Always with a twist and a remix to give an old hook a new look.”

The duo has performed at major South African festivals including Splashy Fen, Up the Creek and Get Lucky Summer, as well as international events such as Réunion Island’s Sakifo Musik Festival and Saarang Festival.

So expect world-class entertainment.

Dress for yourself

There is no prescribed Heritage Day outfit here. The invitation is simply to dress up, dress down, or be yourself.

“We’ve been amazed at how people arrive ready to roll, and encourage everyone to dress in whatever way makes them feel comfortable,” says Magner. “Be wild, be boring – just be YOU! It’s about connecting and allowing ourselves the time to have fun.”

The event is also being supported by Wellaim, bringing its Sport RX and Nature’s Nutrition brands into the morning. Sport RX will serve its new Protein Shakes and Protein WTRs, with protein-packed hampers up for grabs. Nature’s Nutrition will bring its Active Greens and Megashrooms, alongside new smoothie boosters and giveaways.

So whether you start with yoga or arrive ready for the music, the Heritage Day morning is about moving, connecting and having a little fun.

And, naturally, there will be more coffee afterwards.
