LGBT bars and clubs in Girona

The neon lights on the façade let you know that you've arrived at Mas Marcó, an LGBT club located in Santa Cristina d'Aro. Ever since 1988, some of the Costa Brava's biggest and most memorable party nights have taken place in this stone country house ('masia'). With different spaces and a musical selection that ranges from house to dance and trance, you can strut your stuff on the dance floor, if you're in the mood. But if you prefer not to sweat and instead would rather relax with a drink, then head to the chill-out zone complete with sofas. Bored of chit-chat? Grab a cue and make for the billiard table!

Beer vs. spritz. Catalan vermouth vs. Italian vermouth. Whichever you favour, you'll find it at Il Piccolo Caffé, a small bar situated just opposite the houses that back onto the river Onyar and close to Plaça de la Independència. It's an excellent option for a drink and a bite to eat at any hour of the day but especially if you want to experience the tradition of the 'aperitivi italiani'. You can partake of a Martini and a glass of Aperol, cava, soda, orange and ice, accompanied by olives, crisps, and some local element, such as 'fuet' (a thin cured Catalan sausage). They also have other things to snack on, such as sandwiches, savoury flat breads with cheese grilled on top, good music and a lively ambience. It may be small on space but it's big on deliciousnesses.

The couple made up of Hans and Rodrigo are in charge of La Bubu, a bar, pub and disco in Lloret de Mar, with an open attitude and where a party is always guaranteed. From time to time they put on special shows and theme nights, such as the ones for Carnival and Saint Valentine's Day. And in the summer, you'll find daily fun, because at La Bubu any day might see Saturday night fever take over. You'll hear various musical styles, including electronic and electroswing, which are the main protagonists, but they also adapt to the tastes of the tourists who sometimes turn up to hit the dance floor. It's a question of getting the right balance so that everybody feels comfortable, without labels or distinctions.

One place, two characters. That's what Dual offers, a bar in Vilablareix, located ten minutes from the centre of Girona by car. Two versions of itself that change according to the time: in the afternoons, coffees and snacks are the protagonists, while at night it's house music, with electronica, cocktails and a party atmosphere designed to get you moving non-stop. The decor is minimalist and elegant, and there's also a terrace that they've called 'P3 el pati', where the tables and benches let you enjoy a drink in a calm, relaxed setting. From time to time, they organise theme parties as well as private celebrations.

If you're in the mood for one of those parties that goes on until the sun comes up, the Natural Advanced Club in Vilamalla, close to Figueres, should be on your radar. Since it opened in 1995, this place has become one of the most emblematic LGBT hotspots in the area. Electronic music courtesy of its resident DJs is what you'll hear on the dance floor, so let yourself go, be yourself and enjoy a crazy night. But if you prefer something a bit more chilled, the terrace is a great space to savour a gin and tonic or a beer. As they themselves say, they don't want you to go, they want you to go back.

Three, two, one... open the doors, let yourselves be surprised and prepare for a great night out with the Different crew. This nightclub in Castelló d'Empúries, with an open ambience, is a great place for having a drink while listening to a varied selection of tunes, including Spanish and international hits. Open every night of the week, from time to time they put on theme parties, looking for ways to break the familiar routine and helping customers let themselves go. It's a place where the rhythm and temperature never stop going up, whatever the season. Ready for anything?
