With "Israeli winter" upon us, and a general collective sigh when it comes to thinking about stepping foot in a grocery store, we are thinking about how to make cooking at home the most convenient option possible. Thankfully, Tel Aviv has hopped on the delivery food train and there are more websites than ever dedicated to making sure you can skip the hassles of literally leaving your apartment for anything. Save yourself the anguish! Here’s a look at the best places to buy quality groceries

Urban Shaman's brick-and-mortar shop allows you to pick-up all the items outlined on their website, and they also offer delivery on a curated selection of organic cold-pressed juices and vegan snacks like rawnola, chia pudding, as well as a savory bowl filled with soaked and sprouted legumes, veggies, and whole grains.

Delicatessen is a very well curated gourmet store and eatery. While it’s a pleasure shopping their brick-and-mortar location, you can get cold cuts, cheeses, fruits and veggies, wines, fresh baked breads and pastries, cakes, ready-made salads, and a long list of prepared foods ranging from pasta Bolognese to schnitzel to Vietnamese spring rolls delivered fresh to your door. They also offer the option for pick-up so you can skip in-store lines without paying the cost of delivery. And no worries if you’re picky - When you order you’re given the option to leave a note for each item (think “extra sauce” or “hold the onions”).

Hamezaveh

Hamezaveh is a store in Kfar Saba, but they also have a website for delivery that’s total heaven for a health nut – not only because of their great selection, but because of their reasonable prices. They stock a seemingly endless variety of vegan, organic, gluten-free, and generally health-conscious products ranging from whole spelt flour and coconut sugar to an extensive list of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, legumes, cereals, and noodles. There’s also a “deals” section.

Carmella

Everyone loves the fresh produce from Shuk HaCarmel, but the crowds, the parking, the schlepping…not so much. Carmella saves shoppers from all that special kind of cray. You click on what you want and they’ll go get it for you fresh from the Shuk. Their selection not only includes the obvious – like fresh or dried fruits, vegetables, pastries, spices, and nuts - but also flowers, gluten-free produce, organic options, as well as packaged goods like sauces, pasta, cereals, and more.

Nectarina allows you to shop online for pantry staples like nut butters, oils, spices, dried fruits, crackers, pasta, and tea. They also have kitchen and bath items. It’s a great option for someone who doesn’t want to deal with actually shopping in a grocery store, but doesn’t want to pay for shipping. Instead of sending your order to your doorstep, you select your city and Nectarina gives you pick-up location options and times.

As of now you’ll have to call to order, as Bana just launched their “goods to order,” but you can see them all outlined on their website. Everything offered is as good for your taste buds as it is for your waistline. Only the cleanest flours, oils, and sweeteners are used to craft the breads and desserts, which include whole spelt bread, chia-flax crackers, buckwheat granola, vegan quiche, various creams, tarts, and more.

Freshly Frozen Fruits

The reason fruit in Israel tastes so good is because you usually can only buy what’s in season meaning if you’re dying for a peach cobbler in February you’re out of luck. It also means it’s near-impossible to get fruit that doesn’t grow in the area. A great hack around this problem is buying frozen fruit. That too, unfortunately, is limited in most supermarkets and the quality usually isn’t great (do you love blueberries enough to eat small, sour frozen ones that turn your mouth purple?). This site offers a solution with their extensive selection of organic frozen fruit sold in one or two kilo packs. They’ve got everything you can think of from pineapple and passion fruit to mixed berries and acai concentrate.
