A leading figure in the field of abstract art, Katharina Grosse first began using spray paint as a way to blur the borders between walls and canvases 15 years ago, not knowing that this was the first step in her artistic transformation that would bring her to the present day. This act was the catalyst for her exploration into installations as a medium, and today, she’s far better known for her large-scale pieces than her paintings. One of her boldest moves was to spray paint a deserted house in yellow and orange-red to suggest that it was on fire amidst the post-Katrina destruction. This is Grosse’s first show in Istanbul.
